The Information, a tech news publication aimed at the Silicon Valley and founded by former Wall Street Journal reporter Jessica Lessin, is expanding its focus with a weekend lifestyle edition.

“You can’t cover tech all day long without realizing it’s not just about the companies any more,” says Lessin, The Information’s chief executive. “It’s really about how tech is changing the way we live, work and play . . . what does Silicon Valley do on the weekend?”

The Information has reached 225,000 active users, and as per Lessin the subscriber growth has been ¨very solid and consistent¨ in recent years.

The Information charges $400 a year for full access. The 225,000 figure includes paying subscribers and people who have subscribed to a newsletter, which is free. The Information, which Lessin started with her own money and has 49 employees, is profitable but declined to give specifics.

Initially, Lessin was considering launching a new publication on Hollywood.

The new weekend lifestyle edition will be published on Fridays, offering stories ranging from long-form features to recommendations and short interviews. It will also feature a parenting column.

Lessin has recruited Jon Steinberg, previously editor of San Francisco Magazine, and Josh Duboff from Vanity Fair, to lead the project.
