The Atlantic names new business editor

Bob Cohn, the editor of The Atlantic’s digital operations, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

We are very happy to announce three promotions at TheAtlantic.com:

Rebecca Rosen, who for three years has been a stalwart writer/editor/producer on the Tech channel, becomes editor of the Business channel, overseeing a broad swath of stories in economics, finance, retail, manufacturing, trade, and related topics, including posts from the behavioral economics beat so ably staked out by Derek Thompson. (Derek, as most of you know, is moving from business editor to full-time writer for the site and the magazine. Over at the Tech channel, Alexis Madrigal is already on the lookout for a Becca replacement. Send ideas his way.) Becca, who becomes senior editor, will transition to the new role by early next month. You’ll still be able to find her sitting, er, standing over at the tech end of the bullpen.

Eleanor Barkhorn, whose curiosity, intellectual nimbleness, and breadth of knowledge has her on a path to running every channel on the site, becomes senior editor. Eleanor launched the Education channel last September. Prior to that, she was launch editor of the Sexes channel…and, before that, Entertainment. She started at The Atlantic in 2009 as a fellow in the Innovation Center and producer on the late Food channel.

Chris Heller, who has brilliantly integrated the mysterious art of social media into the daily flow of the newsroom, becomes senior associate editor. Chris’s savvy as a journalist and command of the new tools shaping the web have served The Atlantic very well since his arrival as a fellow in 2011.

Please join us in congratulating Chris, Eleanor, and Becca.
