The adrenaline in breaking a big story

Oklahoma magazine profiles Fox Business Network reporter Shibani Joshi — a native of the state — in the latest issue about her career and how she got into business journalism.

Here are some excerpts:

“A big problem I had growing up was that I watched TV, films, and news and no one on the screen looked like me,” says Joshi.  “I didn’t have role models I could look to as a guide for navigating my life and the challenges of being born in the US to parents from another country.”

“I love the rush of adrenaline of breaking a big story,” says 32-year-old FBN reporter and Oklahoma City native Shibani Joshi. “It is the thrill of the chase and breaking news that really keeps you on your toes and teaches you all about the business.”

“Taking the leap to on-air TV work was on of the hardest decisions for me to make because it was like starting from scratch in a brand-new career.”

“(Believe me), I paid my dues,” Joshi says.  “I took journalism classes at night for two years, did freelance on-air work and took side producing projects.  I think that I’m proof that it is never too late to achieve your dreams, but that you have to work hard at it.”
