Texas paper names editor to oversee business coverage

Longtime Tyler Morning Telegraph writer Roy Maynard has accepted a senior editor position with the Texas paper.

Adam Russell of the paper writes, “In his new role, Maynard, 51, will direct the business section for the news organization.

“‘Roy brings a deep knowledge of this community and years of experience to our business coverage,’ Editor Allison Pollan said.

“Maynard has been a journalist for 26 years, getting his start in 1989 covering city hall and politics for the Arlington Daily News before moving to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“He continued to cover local and state government in Galveston, then worked as a freelance writer for various publications, including the Houston Chronicle, the Orange County Register and the Washington Post.

“Maynard traveled the globe from Europe, Central America and the Middle East to cover politics, education and cultural topics for World magazine from 1993-2001. He’s been a teacher and debate coach before returning to journalism in 2003 at the Tyler Morning Telegraph to cover Smith County and Texas politics.”
