The Telegraph has appointed Francesco Zaffarano, a digital journalist at The Economist, to its social media team as social media editor.
The hire will take effect at the end of July.
Zaffrano’s role at The Economist has been to produce content for the newspaper’s Instagram account, which has 3.5 million followers. The Economist syndicates its published content on Instagram and also runs original features on the social network.
In a prior job ad for the position, The Telegraph described the role as working “to maximise the potential of the stories we tell using social media, combining excellent social media and journalistic skills.”
Zaffarano has held numerous social media roles with publications in the UK and in Italy. He has a degree in interactive journalism from City University of London.
