Tech reporter Schatz joins U.S. Telecom Association

Longtime technology reporter Amy Schatz has been hired by the U.S. Telecom Association as its vice president of media affairs.

Schatz had most recently been deputy tech editor for Politico.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amy Schatz to our communications team where her longtime telecom policy expertise and stellar reputation as a tough, but fair reporter will enhance our association’s media affairs activities,” U.S. Telecom president Walter McCormick said in a statement. “Amy’s expertise in digital communications will assist our members in helping get accurate and timely information to the press and public.”

Before Politico, Schatz had been a senior editor for tech news at Recode, focusing on tech policy issues from Washington, D.C., including the Federal Communications Commission, privacy and legislative issues. She also covered implementation of the Affordable Care Act for the Wall Street Journal, where she was a reporter for a decade, covering tech policy from 2005 through 2012.

Before joining the Journal, Schatz covered Dell for the Austin American-Statesman. She wrote about Austin Internet start-ups in 1999 and, a year later, began writing about bankruptcy court, where most of those startups landed. She began her reporting career in a bureau of the St. Petersburg Times.

A native Hoosier, Schatz graduated from Indiana University and received an MBA from Georgetown University in 2012.
