Tech news site Rest of World hires two new reporters

Abubakar Idris

Tech news site Rest of World has hired two new reporters.

Abubakar Idris will join as its Africa reporter, bringing stories from across the region on its growing tech ecosystem. He’ll be based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Idris has contributed to Quartz and was a writer for TechNext, a website in Nigeria. He has also been a technology analyst for Stears Business.

Leo Schwartz

Leo Schwartz will become the news organization’s Latin America reporter based in Mexico City. Schwartz will work closely with the Latin America editor, coordinating coverage and working on story ideas with other regular contributors in the region.

He was previously a reporting fellow at Rest of World, focusing mainly on technology in Latin America. Schwartz was previously the web editor at the NACLA Report. He graduated with honors from NYU in May 2020 with a dual master’s degree in journalism and Latin American studies.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
