Johana Bhuiyan, a tech investigative reporter on the business desk at the Los Angeles Times, is leaving the paper for a job at The Guardian.

Her last day is Friday. She will start at The Guardian on Aug. 30 and move to New York in 2022.

At The Times, she covers the technology industry with a focus on accountability. Bhuiyan, who previously reported on the future of transportation for more than four years, is particularly interested in interrogating how tech impacts real people as well as civil liberties.

At the Guardian, she will continue to do investigative/enterprise work on how tech is used to enhance and enable the surveillance of marginalized groups such as BIPOC, Muslim and immigrant communities as well as low income and gig workers.

Based in San Francisco, Bhuiyan most recently worked at Recode as a senior editor. Prior to that, she worked at BuzzFeed News and Politico NY.
