Switching to AP's Money & Markets page

Mikel LeFort, editor of the Rapid City Journal in South Dakota, writes about making the change from a full stock listing in the newspaper to the Associated Press’ Money & Markets page.

LeFort wrote, “While we had some concerns with the listings that AP sent Monday night, an issue that appears to have been corrected now, we’re pleased with the new page. Not only is it much easier to read, but there are valuable additional market news items in a well-packaged format which takes up no more space than the old stock tables.

“How did we arrive at the list of stocks on the page? We asked readers earlier this year to call business reporter Dan Daly with their preferred stocks and we prioritized those which had multiple requests. We will also feature an expanded list on Sundays.

“Truth be told, some papers have dropped their weekday listings and only run the stock tables on weekends. Others have dropped them completely. More and more investors are getting more current information on their stocks/funds online — as they can do at rapidcityjournal.com. It’s just a more immediate way of getting information than waiting for the morning paper.”
