Sunday biz features writer leaving New York Times

Ron Stodghill, who has been a writer for the Sunday business section at the New York Times, is leaving the paper to become editorial director of six magazines published by the Charlotte Observer, according to a memo from Sunday business editor Tim O’Brien.

O’Brien wrote, “What it means for us is the loss of a collegial, talented writer who graced Sunday Business with wonderful profiles and explanatory features including his strong work on the lottery series with Ron Nixon and Nelson Schwartz.

“Ron’s take: ‘I am pretty jazzed about this new opportunity, but saddened nonetheless to be leaving what I consider to be one of the top assignments in our industry. Even in this brief time, I have grown fond of many on the desk (especially within our close-knit boutique in Sunday Biz) and will be reaching out personally to many across BizDay over the next few days to bid farewell.’

“This also means we now have an opening for a feature writer in Sunday Biz. I’ve reached out to a couple of people already, but the job is wide open for anyone who wants to take a crack at it.

“Ron’s last day is Dec. 7. Please wish him well in his new venture.”

Stodghill was educated at the University of Missouri and Harvard University, where he was a Nieman Fellow. His work has appeared in Time, BusinessWeek, Essence and several newspapers. He is the former editor in chief of Savoy magazine.
