Stern named Wall Street editor at Reuters

Dan Burns, financial markets editor for the Americas for Reuters, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

I’m delighted to announce that Linda Stern is joining the Financial Markets team as Wall Street Editor, effective immediately. In that position, she will oversee a growing stocks team as it pursues its expanded mission to provide more aggressive coverage of hot stocks. Linda will continue to steer coverage of stock funds and ETFs. She also will be an ongoing force in our reporting on investment ideas as the move will foster closer collaboration with her new markets EIC colleagues David Gaffen, Jennifer Ablan and Megan Davies and their teams.

As I have previously reported, her appointment is vital to our growing coverage of stocks on the move, and she will be working closely with the global Buzz team to ensure the continued success of Stocks Buzz, which is already being widely embraced by screens clients.

Linda has a long history with Reuters, having contributed her award-winning personal finance column for two decades before coming on staff in the Washington bureau in 2010. She has most recently served as Wealth Editor, where she has overseen brokerage industry and mutual fund coverage. Under her leadership, the team has raised its profile and published many smart insights, top news stories and exclusives.

Earlier in her multi-faceted career, Linda produced market-moving reporting on macro-economic and tax policy for The Journal of Commerce, wrote and edited the “Money” page for Cosmopolitan magazine, and was part of the Newsweek team that won a National Magazine Award for its special report on the 9/11 attacks. She has published three books on self-employment and retirement and ghost written a fourth on credit. Linda, who describes herself as a stock market enthusiast, will continue to write the Stern Advice column monthly.

Linda’s move to the markets team also signifies an expansion of our investment coverage, an area important to screen and media clients. Moving with her will be investment reporters Ashley Lau, David Randall and Jessica Toonkel, and she will continue to work closely with Boston funds reporters Ross Kerber and Tim McLaughlin.

The move will also help to bolster our wealth management file with expanded coverage of stocks and investment ideas – both key areas of demand by wealth clients. We also remain committed to covering the brokerage industry, which has become a bigger business for Wall Street over the past few years. As a result we will consolidate the rest of the team that reported to Linda with the banking group, led by Dan Wilchins.
