WSJ.com executive editor Alan Murray and managing editor Raju Narisetti sent out the following announcement Friday morning:
We are delighted to announce that Gabriella Stern is joining the WSJ Digital Network as a deputy managing editor.
Gabby’s primary portfolio will include CFO and CIO journal, as well as a growing assortment of important news services aimed at professionals and specialists, including the “Grand Central” project for professional investors. In a sign of further integration in the news department, Gabby will work with editors in charge of various reporting groups on services focusing on Wealth Management, FX, Media, Energy, and will manage our Small Business team. In addition, Gabby will work on existing and proposed new initiatives, ranging from expanding the digital footprint of Journal Reports; our nascent e-books efforts; as well as continue to help find ways for us to better leverage DJN, WSJ and MarketWatch news teams.
Gabby will report to Raju in her new role.
In coming to WSJ.com, Gabby brings a wealth of experience in real-time and print journalism, domestic and international, from stellar tours of duty in many jobs across Dow Jones. She and Raju crossed paths eons ago in the WSJ’s Pittsburgh bureau, after which she went on to serve as deputy bureau chief in the paper’s Detroit bureau and subsequently served as the WSJ’s news editor for mutual funds and then healthcare and science coverage in NY.
Gabby joined Dow Jones Newswires in 2000 as the London-based senior editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She kick-started Journal-Newswires cooperation by appointing the first liaison editor to work with The Wall Street Journal Europe, where Raju was then Editor. By the time she moved to Singapore to run the wires’ Asia-Pacific region, cooperation was well under way, and Asia had emerged as a crucial story for all platforms.
In 2009, she was plucked to serve on WSJ’s brand new Hub in New York as Newswires’ senior editor for global news coverage. For a while she also managed the wires’ Americas bureaus before she was recruited to launch and manage FX. As DJ FX Trader’s global managing editor, Gabby has worked with Jim Pensiero — and scores of committed contributors the world over — on this fast-paced, scoop-filled, specialized news service that now serves as something of a template for other wires initiatives. Earlier this year, DJ FX Trader led a revamp of WSJ.com‘s Currencies page and began managing it on a day to day basis – something we see other groups doing more of in the very near future. In the social sphere, @djfxtrader has become a popular and growing Twitter venue.
We’re pleased to welcome Gabby and wish her all the best in her new position, effective October 8.
