Staff changes at Vancouver paper

Gordon Oliver has joined the business reporting staff at The Columbian in Vancouver, Wash., succeeding Libby Tucker, who has been promoted to Web editor.

A story on the Columbia’s site states, “Oliver, 58, is a veteran journalist with 30 years of experience, most of that at The Oregonian, where his beats included business, land use, and transportation.

“Most recently, Oliver was an assistant business editor, a role in which he worked with a team on a series on the science of the computer chip, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Oliver also was lead editor of an award-winning five-part series on Oregon’s trade relationships with China. At The Columbian, Oliver will cover high-tech businesses, banking and finance, north Clark County business and business innovation.

“He will also take a lead role with the Innovate Clark County community microsite.

“Tucker, 31, has worked for a variety of publications, including the Daily Journal of Commerce in Portland and The New York Times. She is a 2002 graduate of Columbia Journalism School.”
