Greg Cancelada, an assistant business editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for the past 10 years, has left the daily newspaper for a job at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
His last day was Wednesday. At the Fed, he will help write and edit the bank’s written content on economics, banking and monetary policy issues.
Business editor Roland Klose wrote:
Greg’s demand for precise reporting, his skepticism and his sharp questions have served us well — especially at a time of constant deadlines.
His experience — the fact that he worked as a reporter on some of the area’s biggest business stories and his background as a financial journalist — has been invaluable to the newspaper. Countless times, he’s caught mistakes — not just by staffers here, but also in wire stories and even company disclosures.
He’s produced our popular annual sections, including our look at CEO pay and the corporate annual report, that require considerable effort and attention to detail.
Greg has been the glue that’s kept our department together, and he’s been a good colleague and friend to many.
Before becoming the assistant business editor, Cancelada was a reporter on the business desk for five years. He covered the local manufacturing sector and later added Anheuser-Busch and the beer industry to his beat. During that time, he also served on the executive committee of the St. Louis Newspaper Guild.
He was also the Mexico City bureau chief of the now-defunct Bridge News service from January 1999 to August 2001 and Caracas bureau chief and a correspondent in Venezuela for Dow Jones from July 1996 to January 1999.
Cancelada is a University of Washington graduate.
