Adam Goodman, the deputy managing editor for local and business news at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, sent out the following staff announcement:
We are pleased to announce the hiring of Roland Klose as our new business editor. For the last three years, Roland has been business editor at the Commercial Appeal in Memphis, but he has held a wide variety of jobs in journalism during his career. Some of you may remember Roland from his time at the Riverfront Times, where he was managing editor from 1999 to 2003. His past business news experience includes jobs as assistant business editor at the Tampa Tribune as well as staff writer at the Memphis and Nashville business journals. Over the years, he also led the Illinois Times, an alternative newspaper in Springfield, Ill., as editor for five years and worked about nine years as a reporter and editor at the Commercial-Appeal in a prior stint there early in his career. He is a graduate of Washington University.
With a solid background as a dedicated and trusted manager with expertise in business and watchdog reporting, we believe Roland will be a fine addition to our newsroom and our business team. Under the leadership of Roland and assistant business editor Greg Cancelada, we look forward to continued quality business coverage by our staff both online and in print. Roland’s first day is expected to be Feb. 19. He will report to me.
