Rebecca Baker, the current president of the Society of Professional Journalists, has been hired as a managing editor at Bloomberg BNA.
Baker, who will start April 30, will oversee coverage of intellectual property law and issues.
Baker was managing editor and deputy editor in chief of the New York Law Journal from January 2014 to July 2017. She directed all aspects of digital and print production for the publication and strategized daily and long-term news coverage with theme editors.
She was also deputy head of news at the New York Daily News from July 2017 to December 2017. In that position, she assisted in leading a newsroom of 30-plus news reporters who cover breaking news in New York, the United States and the world, and mentored and coached reporters on daily and long-term news coverage.
Baker also worked at the Bergen County Record and the Journal News in White Plains, New York, where she created “Completely Legal,” a law blog.
Her work as a courts/crime reporter led to appearances on several cable network television shows, including “American Greed,” “On the Case with Paula Zahn” and “Nancy Grace.”
She also was a regular guest on “Crime and Justice with Dan Schorr,” a New York-based radio program and podcast.
Baker graduated magna cum laude in journalism from Quinnipiac University in 2003, and summa cum laude in communication from Carlow University (formerly known as Carlow College) in 1995.
