Kristy Rupon, the acting business editor at The State in Columbia, S.C., has been named business editor of the paper.
Rupon upon has been acting business editor and assistant business editor since the fall of 2010. Rupon joined The State 11 years ago, after working at the (Camden) Chronicle-Independent in Camden and The (Spartanburg) Herald-Journal.
While a student at her alma mater, Columbia College, she also had been an intern at The State. In addition to editing The State’s business pages and business reporters, Rupon also writes “Shop Around,” a popular column on retail developments in the Midlands.
The State’s Sunday real estate section — Your Home — won top honors in the newspaper competition of the National Association of Real Estate Editors when it was coordinated by Rupon.
Rupon also helped oversee a military page on The State’s website that one a President’s Award from McClatchy, its parent company. The military page assembles the latest news on all military topics, aggregates stories from across the country, links to sources of information ranging from bases to veterans organizations, and posts commentary on military topics.
