Geoffrey Smith has been hired by Bloomberg News as its Europe finance editor.
On LinkedIn, Smith wrote, “It’s a THIRD tour of duty for me in Frankfurt, having watched the euro be created, and very nearly fall apart, in the previous two…which way is the pendulum going to swing this time?”
Smith had most recently been at Fortune, where he was Europe news editor in London.
From June 2009 to 2014, Smith worked at Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal in various European locations, reporting on European macroeconomics and financial regulation, as well as the Eurozone.
He was also the Russia bureau chief from February 2002 to October 2007 for Dow Jones Newswires.
Smith holds a degree in modern languages from the University of Oxford.
