Senior editor Hesseldahl leaves Recode

Arik Hesseldahl

Arik Hesseldahl, a senior editor at Recode, has left the tech news site after two and a half years.

In a note on Facebook, Hesseldahl writes:

My colleagues have often blown my mind with their reporting and in so doing forced me to raise my game during the last five years, and its been a profound privilege to work with them.

I want to thank Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg for taking a chance on me when they added me to the AllThingsD team in 2010. Additionally I met a lot of great people in the tech industry and learned a great deal along with the way, which is really what makes the job of daily reporting so fulfilling.

In email to Talking Biz News, Hesseldahl stressed that the parting was amicable. The most notable story he covered at Recode — at least the one that everyone remembers — was breaking the North Korea connection to the Sony Pictures hack in 2014.

Hesseldahl was with Recode when it launched in January 2014, joining from The Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD. Before that, he was a tech writer for Bloomberg Businessweek.

Before joining BusinessWeek, Hesseldahl  spent five years at Forbes.com, covering pretty much every aspect of tech, writing a daily column called “Ten O’Clock Tech”’ a daily survey of new tech products that predated properties such as Engadget and Gizmodo.

He was also business editor of the Idaho State Journal from 1994 to 1996.
