Send your used business journalism textbooks to China

When we last heard from Gregg Fields, the former Miami Herald business journalist, he was going to China to teach business journalism at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Fields is now near the end of teaching his first semester, and he says there’s a dire need by his students for business journalism textbooks in English.

“Basically, the program is an English-language graduate program in business journalism,” says Fields. “The students come sub-Saharan Africa, southeast Asia and Eastern Europe, in addition, of course, to China. Very smart students.

“Tsinghua is a very prestigious school, but English-language textbooks are expensive and difficult to find in China,” he adds. “So we’re trying to build a small lending library that students and faculty can use in-house.

“The program is heavily oriented toward practical skills. So anything related to writing, research, etc., would be good. ‘Best of” books on good business writing examples are great, too.”

If you’ve got any such books, mail them to: Gregg Fields, 760 NE 71st St., Miami, FL 33138. He’s coming back to the States after the semester ends and will ship the books from there for use when he returns for the spring semester. Dedications to the donor will be placed in the front of the book.

Finally, Fields also teaches a course on the ethics of business journalism. It’s at 8 a.m. local time, or 7 p.m. Eastern. If anyone would be interested in perhaps being interviewed via Skype during his class, please feel free to drop him a line at fields@fiu.edu.
