Seattle Times names Grunbaum its biz editor

Rami Grunbaum, longtime deputy business editor at the Seattle Times, has been promoted to business editor.

Grunbaum replaces Becky Bisbee, who had been business editor for the past 15 years and left earlier this month due to accepting a buyout.

“I’m a big Rami fan,” said Bisbee in an email to Talking Biz News. “He has the smarts, skills and tenacity to be a great business editor. I’m very happy for him and wish him all the best.”

As deputy business editor, Grunbaum has overseen “Sunday Buzz,” a compendium of local business tidbits that may be insightful, entertaining or sometimes irreverent.

He was also part of a team, along with Boeing reporter Dominic Gates and Jim Brunner, that was a Gerald Loeb Award finalist in the breaking news category for “SeaTimes Breaking News: Boeing Machinist Contract Vote Showdown.”

Before joining the times, Grunbaum worked at the Puget Sound Business Journal as its editor from 2002 to 2004. He attended the Cal-Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

He was born to Yugoslavian parents who came to the United States via Israel. His father is professor emeritus in the math department at the University of Washington in Seattle.

  • Good luck and best wishes to Becky Bisbee, a former colleague and a terrific journalist. Hope the next challenge is a good one.
