Rami Grunbaum

Seattle Times business editor Rami Grunbaum is retiring next month after 17 years at the newspaper, including more than five as business editor.

The Times business news desk covers major companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Starbucks. Under Grunbaum’s watch, The Times won a Pulitzer Prize and a Gerald Loeb Award for its coverage of Boeing.

He previously was deputy business editor and oversaw “Sunday Buzz,” a compendium of local business tidbits that may be insightful, entertaining or sometimes irreverent.

He was also part of a team, along with Boeing reporter Dominic Gates and Jim Brunner, that was a Gerald Loeb Award finalist in the breaking news category for “SeaTimes Breaking News: Boeing Machinist Contract Vote Showdown.”

Before joining the times, Grunbaum worked at the Puget Sound Business Journal as its editor from 2002 to 2004. He attended the Cal-Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

He was born to Yugoslavian parents who came to the United States via Israel.
