Scranton business editor promoted

Jeff Sonderman, the business editor of the Scranton Times-Tribune, has been promoted to metro editor, which means he will oversee local news and business news at the paper, according to a short story Sunday.

The story stated, “Mr. Sonderman, who resides in Scranton, has been with the newspaper for almost four years. As a reporter, he covered business, health care and transportation.

“He earned a first-place award from the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Journalists this year for a series published in 2006 on medical malpractice. He earned the National Mental Health Media Award from the National Mental Health Association last year for excellence in reporting on mental health issues. He also won a Keystone Press Award honorable mention for ongoing news coverage in 2005 for an investigation of a patient death at a local hospital psychiatric unit.

“Mr. Sonderman was promoted to business editor in August 2006. In that capacity, he supervised coverage of business and health care in Scranton, editing the daily business section in The Times-Tribune and the award-winning Sunday BusinessWeekly section that reaches more than 300,000 readers in The Times-Tribune, The Citizens’ Voice in Wilkes-Barre and The Standard-Speaker in Hazleton.”
