San Francisco Chronicle to cut standalone biz section two days

The San Francisco Chronicle announced Thursday that its business section on Mondays and Tuesdays will now appear in the back of its sports section.

The business section will remain a standalone section during the rest of the week.

The announcement stated, “Although the combinations will have no direct effect on the amount of newsprint required, they will allow the paper to be printed more efficiently and with fewer presses, cutting expenses in a difficult economy. The configurations are possible on Mondays and Tuesdays because the paper normally has fewer pages than later in the week.

“‘At a time when newspapers across the country, including the Bay Area, are scaling back, this approach allows The Chronicle to reduce its costs without reducing news space and content for our readers,’ said Frank J. Vega, publisher and president.”
