The San Antonio Business Journal has hired Mitchell Parton as its new commercial real estate and retail reporter.
He replaces Ryan Salchert, who moved to the Dallas Business Journal.
Parton writes, “I’m an extremely recent — less than three weeks ago — graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where I studied journalism and jazz trumpet, oddly enough. Last summer, I interned at sister paper the Cincinnati Business Courier. Some of my favorite stories from my time there include Boston’s Tufts University acquiring more than $7 million of farmland in Greater Cincinnati, a Chicago nonprofit rehabbing a former construction HQ into an elementary school and Cincinnati’s first riverboat race in more than a decade.
“I also spent the last couple of years serving in a few different roles at The News Record, my alma mater’s independent student newspaper. There, I reported on a development project just outside of the university that aspires to be the next Silicon Valley, the missteps in UC’s creation of an interdisciplinary digital media program and the impending fate of the infamous 16-story concrete tower looming over UC’s campus.”
