Sacramento Business Journal publisher Terry Hillman said Wednesday he plans to step down at the end of the month to return with his family to their native state of Missouri.
Jack Robinson, the editor of he Sacramento paper, writes, “Hillman, 45, succeeded Joanna Wessman as publisher in February 2012. Previously he was advertising director at the Kansas City Business Journal — which, like the Sacramento Business Journal, is among 40 business weeklies owned by Charlotte-based American City Business Journals.
“He arrived as the Sacramento region was still struggling with the economic downturn. Over the nearly three years that followed, Hillman led successful campaigns to reenergize the newspaper’s advertising staff and dramatically expand its online news report.
“Hillman, who started his career with ACBJ in 2002, said he has been offered an executive role at another large company — unnamed until the appointment is official — in Kansas City. His last day at the Business Journal will be Oct. 31.”
