SABEW to offer conference call on covering the economy next week

March 18, 2008

Day after day, economic stories get Page 1 play, reflecting the turmoil in the housing and credit markets, the soaring price of fuel, the wave of buyouts and layoffs. Which numbers are the most important? What data and coverage can be localized? How can you get people into data-based stories?

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers wants to provide some answers. Join the largest organization of business reporters and editors for a conference call on Wednesday, March 26, at noon EDT to hear a panel of experts offer advice and answer your questions.

The panel includes:

  • Harriet Brackey, reporter, South Florida Sun-Sentinel;
  • Aldo Svaldi, reporter, Denver Post; and
  • Stuart A. Schweitzer, global markets strategist, JPMorgan Asset Management.
  • Moderator: Tom Redburn, deputy business editor, The New York Times

If you plan to be on the call, RSVP to SABEW at sabew@missouri.edu, and call directions will be sent to you. They are also compiling questions in advance, and please send these directly to SABEW board member Josh Mills at joshmills@optonline.net.
