Jack Robinson, who was editor of the Sacramento Business Journal from 2011 to 2016, died Monday at the age of 61 from a brain tumor.

Sonya Sorich of the Business Journal writes, “Robinson joined the Business Journal in February 2011, after working as managing editor of the Fresno Bee. When that paper’s parent company, The McClatchy Co., was looking to trim its staff. Robinson wrote a memo to the paper’s executive editor. He outlined how he’d make the cut, which included eliminating his own job, he said.

“‘I didn’t see it any other way,’ Robinson said in 2011. ‘The cost of reporters we’d have to lose was too high. … She agreed with me.’

“Following a nationwide search, he was named editor of the Business Journal, where he played a key role in the paper’s digital transition.

“‘Jack was one of the smartest, most articulate people I have ever worked with. His incredible writing and editing skills, coupled with his vast newsroom experience, proved to be an invaluable resource for the entire Sacramento community. He will be greatly missed,’ said Beth Davis, former print editor of the Business Journal.”
