Rob Taylor leaves journalism after 24 years to join Australian government

Rob Taylor is leaving journalism after 24 years and postings in the Middle East, Kabul, Indonesia and South East Asia to take a communications job with the Australian government.

Most recently, Taylor has worked at the Wall Street Journal for six years, covering political and
general news as well as economics, in Australia and the Pacific.

Based in Australia’s parliament in Canberra, he has also worked in Afghanistan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

He was previously with Reuters and also worked in Jakarta for Australia’s local agency AAP. 

He has covered conflict, elections, earthquakes and tsunamis on three continents. 

He began his career in Africa as a news photographer.
