Richmond daily hires deputy business editor

Greg Shriver has been hired as deputy business editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch in Virginia, reporting to business editor Greg Gilligan.

¨It is a new position to help provide me with some relief since Business News has a four-page daily section, a six-page Sunday section, a 24-page to 32-page Monday Metro Business section and a vibrant daily e-newsletter and I was editing all of those sections,¨ said Gilligan.

Shriver was previously the assistant managing editor at The Winchester Star in Virginia since 2010, where he oversaw the nightside operation at the 20,000-circulation daily, directing the front page designer, chief copy editor, other copy editors and reporters.

He was the newspaper’s city editor for two years before that, coordinating content of the paper with other editors, photographers and reporters as well as designing and paginating local section on the weekends.

He spent nine years at The Des Moines Register, where he was a senior copy editor, and another nine years as sports editor for The Fond du Lac Reporter in Wisconsin.

He is a 1985 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
