The service, aimed at mobile consumers who don’t have time or interest in traditional appointment viewing, will cover general interest stories targeted at a U.S. and British audience. The content is produced specifically for Reuters TV.
Consumers will have two viewing options: Live feeds of global events such as protests in Egypt or a presidential speech in Washington, and a news show called “Reuters Now” that can last anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes and is customized to each viewer’s interests and locations.
“Reuters Now” will include segments from journalists in more than 200 bureaus across the world and include politics, business and finance, technology, spots and entertainment news.
Viewers will be able to automatically download “Reuters Now” to watch whenever they want without an Internet connection and can set the length of the show.
Consumers will be able to try the service for 30 days for free. After that, it will charge $1.99 per month through the iTunes store. It is available now on iPhones and is expected to be released later in iPads.
