Reuters seeks a Moscow bureau chief

Reuters is looking for a candidate with a deep understanding of the Russian political, economic and corporate landscape coupled with the ability to organise a large team of reporters in a challenging environment.

The successful person will be a journalist committed to agenda-setting coverage who is able to generate compelling ideas and edit with authority across all facets of the file.

You will have a deep understanding of the needs of our financial, media and consumer clients and will ensure that our news is delivered with speed and authority and in the most engaging formats. You will understand the value of both speed and deeper reporting, of news that moves markets and stories that overturn accepted thinking, from the snap to the special report.

As our Russia and CIS Bureau Chief, you will:

  • Break news and be ultra-competitive on complex, fast-moving developments even as you drive insightful enterprise journalism.
  • Possess first class leadership skills and the ability to set priorities in a large news gathering operation.
  • Generate great ideas, edit and write with comfort and authority across the file, and work closely with visuals colleagues.
  • Have exceptional news judgment and a sound understanding of reader and client needs across all financial asset classes.

To be our Russia and CIS Bureau Chief, you will likely have:

  • A deep knowledge of the Russian story and an understanding of the key players and issues.
  • A keen understanding of and interest in corporate and financial news.
  • Diplomatic skills.
  • Fluent Russian is essential. Additional languages are an advantage.
  • Experience of recruiting, motivating and managing diverse teams of skilled journalists.
  • A solid base of high-level contacts in the region
