Reuters News names global head of sales

Steven Schwartz, global managing director of Reuters News, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

Last December, I announced a restructure of News Agency & Content Solutions, which included a to-be-appointed global head of sales for News Agency. Today I am very pleased to announce that we have promoted Anita Tobias to serve in this important role.

Anita, who has done an excellent job serving as interim global head of sales over the past few months, will now oversee our entire News Agency sales organization and also continue her day-to-day leadership of the Americas News Agency sales team. Her sales expertise, media industry experience and deep organizational knowledge are critical assets, which we look forward to leveraging more broadly as she officially assumes this expanded role.  She’ll continue to be based in New York and will report directly to me. Anita will begin to transition immediately and will be fully in her new role by the end of June.

In addition to Anita, I’m pleased to announce the appointment of another important role created to further enhance our sales efforts. Evan Garricks is joining our organization on June 29 to take on the new and dual role of global head of sales operations and head of sales, Europe, MART and Asia, Reuters News Agency.

As global head of sales operations, Evan will drive sales excellence across News Agency & Content Solutions by working to improve sales processes, proficiency, operational execution, efficiency and key account collaboration across the organization. As head of Agency sales, Europe, MART and Asia, Evan will have responsibility for leading and managing all sales activities for Reuters News Agency in these regions. He will be based in London, and will report to Anita for his Agency sales leadership role and his Agency sales operations role, with a dotted line to me for his Content Solutions sales operations responsibilities. Along with Anita, he will be part of the Agency Leadership Team.

Evan is an accomplished sales leader with over 20 years of experience in sales and business transformation across the globe. He joins us from American Tower Corporation (ATC), where he recently completed a three-year assignment to establish and implement sales operations for ATC Uganda. Before that, he was general manager, head of sales for BT Teleconsult and worked for a number of years at McAfee Inc.

Reporting to Evan will be:

  • Europe, MART and Asia regional sales leaders, Jo Schmaltz, Samir Sabbah and Jill Grinda
  • Yoges Vasagam

I’m very much looking forward to the insights, experience and sales process that Evan will bring to our organization, which will be a perfect complement to the industry-specific expertise and sales leadership that Anita will provide.

Please join me in welcoming Evan to Reuters and congratulating Anita on her well-deserved promotion.
