Reuters editor in chief Steve Adler sent out the following announcement on Monday:
Colleagues,
I’m pleased to share with you today that Simon Robinson has been named regional editor for EMEA, effective January 1. He will report to me.
In this role, Simon will provide leadership and editorial direction across the news file for our largest region. In addition, Simon and I have decided that EMEA will move forward with the new structure implemented earlier this year in the Americas and Asia, with the regional head supported by both a managing editor for news and a managing editor for operations. Simon will be sharing details about these roles and the process of filling them in the coming weeks.
Simon has been a creative and inspirational leader of enterprise coverage since he joined Reuters in 2010. Most recently, in May, he was named deputy global enterprise editor, supplementing his duties as regional enterprise editor for EMEA. Simon has worked with a dedicated regional enterprise team, plus bureau chiefs and reporters across the region, to deliver powerful series that exposed corporate tax practices at Starbucks, Google and Amazon; explored the secretive, multi-billion dollar organization controlled by Iran’s Supreme Leader; deftly followed the corporate and money trail to document Putin’s fortune; and provided groundbreaking reports from the Middle East, among many other important projects.
Since joining Reuters, Simon has led teams that garnered a number of accolades, including two Pulitzer Prize finalists (Libya and Iraq), plus stories that have won 60+ awards. He was also given the Thomson Reuters Editor’s Choice award for enterprise coverage in 2011. Prior to his role at Reuters, Simon worked at Time Magazine for 15 years as a correspondent and as acting regional editor for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
I’m confident that Simon will continue to make a positive difference in his new role as our editorial leader in this region. I also want to thank Richard Mably for his successful tenure as regional editor as he begins the job of transitioning the role to Simon and takes on his critical new responsibilities running markets and commodities & energy coverage.
Best regards,
Steve
