Reuters names new editors for online operations

Reuters digital executive editor Jim Roberts sent out the following staff promotion announcement on Thursday:

I am happy to announce some important developments on our digital staff.

Margarita Noriega, currently our Community Editor, is being promoted to the new position of Editor in Charge, Reuters Live News, where she will oversee and manage the production and editing of live blogs across Reuters.com and mobile sites and apps. She will help develop and refine guidelines for live blogs and be the main liaison to the newsroom in organizing live-blog responses to breaking news events. In addition, Margarita will be the newsroom’s social media point person, overseeing our accounts on Twitter, Facebook and other social platforms. She will also help the newsroom innovate new ways of using social media to spread Reuters journalism, interact with our audience and collect news, images and video for our digital platforms. Since joining Reuters earlier this year, Margarita has made a huge impact on our digital news products and our visibility and follower counts on social media platforms. If you’re not following @margafret on Twitter, now would be a good time to start.

Next up, Arlene Getz, who recently served as editorial liaison for Thomson Reuters’ media clients in the US, is joining our ranks in the new position of EIC, Digital News. In this job, Arlene will work with editors on the Top News desk, as well as the digital editors managing our consumer news platforms, to ensure that the audience on Reuters.com and mobile apps is delivered the most up to date and relevant news from reporters and desks throughout the news organization. She will work to ensure that it is produced and edited in a way that best serves the consumer audience. And she will be a liaison with editors in Bangalore and other offices as we continue to build a global editing team for the legacy Reuters.com, the new Web site and our mobile apps.

With Arlene on board, Robert MacMillan will devote more of his time to editing and developing new content for Reuters.com and our other digital platforms. While he will keep all of his responsibilities supervising the Bangalore and Delhi online desks, Robert will be the primary editor for much of the blog content and other digital-only efforts that appear in our news sections.

Please join me in warmly congratulating these editors on their updated assignments.
