Jonathan Weber, global technology editor at Reuters, sent out the following announcement on Friday:

Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that Dave Ingram will be joining the company news team in San Francisco to cover social media and especially the behemoth of that business, Facebook.

It’s hard to overstate the impact that social media is having on business, politics and culture, and this appointment is a crucial step in helping us cover that story in all of its dimensions. Dave will work closely with others on the tech, cyber-security, legal, general news and online teams, as well as overseas bureaus, to break news and explore the many novel issues associated with this extraordinarily powerful new medium and a company that, with 1.8 billion users around the world, is something of a nation-state in itself.

Dave joined Reuters in 2011 as a correspondent in Washington, covering lobbying and legal affairs. He was our Justice Department correspondent for two years, where his wins included breaking the news of the BP oil spill settlement. He moved to New York in 2014 to cover breaking legal news and later white-collar crime, where he was a major force in our top-notch coverage of the FIFA scandal. Since August he has been on secondment with the General News team. Before joining Reuters he covered Congress for Legal Times and North Carolina politics for The Charlotte Observer and Winston-Salem Journal.

An avid runner and hiker, he’s looking forward to an improved venue for those activities. Dave is also looking forward to exploring the Bay Area’s bluegrass scene and wearing hoodies to the office.

Dave will start on March 1 and will report to Jonathan Weber, Global Technology Editor. Please join me in wishing Dave the best in his new role.
