Reuters global managing editor Betty Wong sent out the following announcement on Monday:
Belinda Goldsmith, whose 26 years as a journalist has spanned coverage in virtually every news specialty, has been selected to be our next global head of editorial learning. She succeeds Steve Carroll in the role and will start in November before moving early next year to London. Steve has moved to a new role to help train journalists on Eikon.
Working with our team of learning managers, Belinda will help deliver our Reuters: 2012 strategy and help editorial develop the publishing ethos. Belinda will report to me directly.
Belinda has been our Global Lifestyle editor since June 2006 during which she launched the profitable lifestyle product Reuters Life! and ensured lifestyle and entertainment were an integral part of our clients’ daily news. Her previous roles at Reuters include editor in charge, finance and mergers & acquisitions in New York; senior correspondent, Canberra; senior correspondent, Nordic and Baltics; and commodities correspondent, Australia. Before joining Reuters 16 years ago, Belinda worked for the Australian Associated Press as its Sydney correspondent and later as AAP’s Papua New Guinea correspondent. She also worked as a reporter/newsreader at Viking Radio in Hull, U.K. and as a trainee reporter at Surrey & South London Newspapers.
Belinda’s knowledge of our key financial customers, how journalists work, and her ability to marshall resources and network across the organization will be valuable for our editorial learning team.
