Reuters names Chua executive editor

Reuters editor in chief Steve Adler sent out the following announcement on Friday:

I am pleased to announce that Reg Chua will become executive editor for editorial operations, data and innovation, effective immediately.

After Stuart Karle’s departure late last year, I assigned the lead operations role to Reg on an interim basis, while conducting interviews to fill the slot permanently. Reg did an excellent job filling in, working creatively and effectively with me, the general managers, and with Finance, Communications, and HR. In the process, he also demonstrated that he could balance both the operations and data & innovation roles. As a result, I decided he should do both, with appropriate assistance from the team, on a full-time basis.

In his new role, Reg is responsible for Editorial’s strategic planning and resource allocation; operational processes; budget; administration and logistics; and safety. He’ll continue to retain his data and innovation responsibilities, which among other things, include serving as editorial liaison for the Eikon news experience; working with the Platform Group on news tools and technology; and coordinating key Editorial projects such as metadata and automation.

Reg will report to me; the GM team, as well as the data and innovation team, will report to Reg. Reg joined Reuters as part of the leadership team in 2011 after serving as editor in chief of the South China Morning Post. He started his career at Reuters, and later worked in a number of capacities at The Wall Street Journal, in Asia and the U.S. Between 2005 and 2008, he was The Journal’s assistant managing editor for budget and administration.

Please join me in congratulating Reg and wishing him success in his new position.
