Reuters editor in chief Steve Adler sent out the following announcement to the staff on Wednesday:
Our colleagues in the Financial & Risk division launched an exciting new networking and community-building tool this week. Called the Global Markets Forum, it offers an around-the-clock community bringing together key customers, market experts and members of our editorial staff. We wanted to take a moment to describe the importance of this new service and enlist your help in making it a success.
The invitation-only Forum channels our greatest assets — our reputation, connections, collaboration tools and, especially, our editorial expertise — to create a community within which current and potential customers can share their concerns and ideas, meet like-minded professionals all over the world and engage with and learn from our editorial staff. Building on the success of current specialist communities, which include ‘The Dealing Room,’ focused on foreign exchange; Commodities & Energy communities like the ‘Global Oil Forum’ and equities communities such as ‘Trading Middle East,’ the Forum aims to be a go-to community for members seeking to digest what is going on in the global markets. Across the world, the Forum’s nine member editorial staff will highlight the most critical news topics, curate the widest range of views on those topics and invite the most influential voices to discuss them. One facet will be critical to the Forum’s success — the bringing together of our global newsroom with the community’s membership. The main way in which this will be done is via guest appearances by Reuters News staff in the day’s discussions. Such ‘community interviews’ are one of the great success stories of the existing editorial-run chatrooms and are a vital part of the Forum.
Based on the news of the day and the interests of the community, the Forum’s editors – Walden Siew in the US, Amanda Cooper in Europe, and Divya Chowdhury in Asia – will be in touch with some of you to share your insights and background knowledge with subscribers and potential customers. In return, you can expect to hear straight from market pros about what most concerns them, get new angles on stories and build new contacts and relationships. In short, this initiative is a great opportunity for you to develop and deepen your list of sources.
