Reuters hires McClellan as top news editor in Asia

Philip McClellan

Philip McClellan has been hired as the top news editor in Asia for Reuters.

He begins Monday and will be based in Singapore.

McClellan was previously the weekend editor for international coverage at The New York Times. He edited enterprise and breaking news and oversaw production of the Sunday and Monday newspapers.

He has also been deputy managing editor and chief editor for Asia for the International Herald Tribune, the global edition of The Times. This included production of the print editions of the IHT in Asia, as well as oversight of the NYT.com Global Edition website and IHT tablet and mobile applications during the Asian day.

McClellan was also a weekend editor on the foreign desk for the San Jose Mercury News.

He holds degrees from Lewis & Clark College and the University of Hong Kong.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
