Reuters hires Dickie to cover climate and the environment

Reuters has hired Gloria Dickie to cover climate and environment news.

She will be based in London and will start in January.

Dickie has been a freelance journalist for the past five years. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, Wired magazine, Reuters, Scientific American magazine, Al Jazeera, Public Radio International, The Atlantic, Huffington Post, Outside, Pacific Standard, Columbia Journalism Review, Yale Environment 360, and Science News.

In 2021, she was a finalist for the Covering Climate Now awards in the Breaking News category and her coverage of a changing Arctic received the First Honorable Mention for Outstanding Beat Reporting (Large Market) in the Society of Environmental Journalists’ annual environmental reporting awards.

Previously, she was nominated for a National Magazine Award in the short feature category for her reporting on the development of China’s Giant Panda National Park (2019) and she received the inaugural Food Sustainability Media Award, Print for a published feature on maggot farming from Thomson Reuters Foundation in Milan, Italy (2017). She is a National Geographic Explorer in storytelling.

Dickie served on the board of directors of the Society of Environmental Journalists from 2016 to 2019.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
