Daniel Flynn, Latin America editor for Reuters, sent out the following announcement:

I am delighted to announce two new additions to our busy team in southern Latin America. Adam Jourdan will be joining us as Southern Cone bureau chief, based in Buenos Aires, managing our coverage of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Peru. Adam is due to start his new role in January. And in Argentina, Cassandra Garrison will be joining the Buenos Aires bureau as a correspondent, effective immediately.

Please join me in wishing Adam and Cassandra all the best in their exciting new roles!

ADAM JOURDAN

Adam Jourdan

Adam is currently working as Chief Correspondent for company news in China, where he has led a team in Beijing and Shanghai covering the corporate fall-out of a biting trade war with the United States, the outward push by Chinese firms along the new Silk Road and the rapid development of technology and surveillance in the world’s most populous country.

Adam joined Reuters as a graduate trainee in 2012, covering stories including pigs floating down the Huangpu river into Shanghai, hazardous pollution and China’s push to internationalize its currency. In his six years in the coastal city of Shanghai, Adam has written tales of pharmaceutical corruption and the country’s overburdened healthcare system, major shifts in manufacturing and consumption and the Wild West of Chinese football deals.

Before joining Reuters, Adam ran an editorial agency in London working with British broadsheets and magazines. He has also directed and produced documentary and fiction films in India, Brazil and his spiritual home in the Scottish Highlands. A London native (and long-suffering Arsenal fan) with Scottish roots, Adam will move with his wife Gabriela and their two young sons Jack and Luca.

CASSANDRA GARRISON

Cassandra Garrison

Cassandra joined Reuters four and half years ago in New York as head of social media. She has built a team of journalists around the globe and worked across editorial to curate social content and grow our following to more than 23 million. She covered major stories including the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the annual World Economic Forum in Davos and the Rio Olympics, where she raced to the airport to be the only journalist onboard a Miami-bound flight carrying two U.S. swimmers accused of lying about being robbed at gunpoint, netting exclusive video and photos for Reuters. Cassandra has done reporting stints in London, Buenos Aires and Santiago, covering the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal and Amazon’s ambition to store and mine data generated by Chile’s giant telescopes.

She began her career in television as a reporter and morning anchor for Erie, Pennsylvania’s WJET. In New York, she covered Occupy Wall Street, Hurricane Sandy and the NYPD for Metro newspaper.

Cassandra is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and is thrilled to call Buenos Aires her new home. In her free time, you will find her exploring the city’s parks as a runner and then undoing all that work in her quest to identify Argentina’s best empanada.
