Reno business reporter is retiring

Screen Shot 2015-10-24 at 1.42.02 PMBill O’Driscoll, who has worked as a reporter in Reno, Nev., since 1979, including the last 16 as a business reporter for the Reno Gazette-Journal, is retiring from the paper.

His last day will be Thursday, Oct. 29.

Guy Clifton of the Gazette-Journal writes, “O’Driscoll started his newspaper career one week after graduating from UNR in 1979, as the night cops reporter for the Nevada State Journal.

“He went on to do general assignment and feature writing and editing before going to Gannett News Service in Washington, D.C., for three years in the late ’80s, covering Congress, politics and the federal government.

“He returned to the RGJ in 1990 to be the Capitol Bureau chief, covering elections and five sessions of the Nevada Legislature.

“In 1999, he started as a business reporter in Reno and for the next 16 years covered all sectors of industry, notably gaming/tourism, economic development and the economy.”
