Ratings plummet for CNBC's Kudlow show

Business news network CNBC has tended to ignore its after-hours business line-up in favor of its daytime programming, but perhaps it should start paying closer attention to Larry Kudlow’s show, “The Kudlow Report,” which appears during the week at 7 p.m.

The show hosted by the supply side economics guru is one of the worst offenders in CNBC’s recent ratings decline.

When comparing viewers from October 2010 to viewers from October 2009, which were released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research, Kudlow’s ratings in the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic are down 34 percent. He now has 37,000 viewers in that demographic, off from 56,000 in the same month a year ago.

That’s a surprising performance in an election season when viewers are consumed with how Washington is going to fix the economy. The program regularly features top officials from the White House and Congress along with business leaders and influential journalists who report and comment on the day’s events.

“The Kudlow Report” began airing in January 2009, replacing his previous show, “Kudlow & Co.”
