Mary Cornatzer, the business editor at The (Raleigh) News & Observer, sent out the following staff announcement:

I am happy to announce that David Bracken will become our new assistant business editor.

David came to the N&O in December 2004 to cover eastern Wake County and within a couple of years had moved over to cover the City of Raleigh. He joined the business desk in the fall of 2009 to cover commercial real estate. It quickly became apparent that he could do much more. He has distinguished himself with is coverage of cereal makers, incentives, economic development and more.

David will keep his commercial real estate column for the time being. We will be hiring to fill his position.

Bracken replaces Alan Wolf, who left the paper last week to be a public relations person for a local hospital.
