Joon Ian Wong, who covered cryptocurrencies for Quartz, has left the business news site for a job at CoinDesk.
Wong is now managing director for Europe and Asia for CoinDesk, expanding its events business and figuring out ways to educate and inform the influx of people to crypto, building on CoinDesk’s independent reporting and data services.
“It’s a rare opportunity to build a media and information business just as an entirely new industry is forming,” said Wong on Twitter.
Wong had been at Quartz since December 2015. Before that, he worked at CoinDesk for two years.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and philosophy from New York University and has freelanced for Londonist, Al Jazeera English, Skift, the Wall Street Journal Asia, The Edge Malaysia, CNBC Magazine, the South China Morning Post, Vogue Paris, DJ magazine, and the New Straits Times.
