Quartz editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following staff promotion on Wednesday:
I’m happy to announce the appointment of Lauren Brown as Quartz’s special projects editor.
In this role, Lauren will lead editorial projects that are key priorities as we expand the newsroom and company, such as series of articles and new coverage areas and formats we experiment with. She will take on special projects aimed at building our readership, and be a liaison with our sales and marketing colleagues around editorial initiatives.
Lauren has been deputy Ideas editor since before the launch of Quartz, bringing focus and creativity to building up that stream of content. She has been especially key in initiating Ideas coverage in areas such as education, management, and health. Lauren is a “doer” in the best sense of the term, employing an entrepreneurial approach to getting things done and taking on projects beyond the strict remit of Ideas. That has included spearheading special projects such as our recurring series on high-growth companies and helping launch our management and lifestyle coverage.
Lauren has worked closely with many reporters in the newsroom on news and enterprise stories with smart ideas and shareability at their core. She excels at working across different teams to get stuff done—a fitting and necessary skill in her new role. Lauren will continue to work with reporters and outside contributors in areas such as education, work and careers, and health. And she’ll work closely with Paul on keeping up the great momentum for Ideas. Lauren will report to me in this role.
