Quartz hires two editorial staffers

Quartz executive editor Xana Antunes sent out the following announcement:

We have some staff additions to share.

Alex Ossola joins as deputy special projects editor. Alex was most recently the managing editor and former features editor at Futurism, where she ran projects on topics like quantum computing and planetary exploration. Before that, Alex developed an impressive portfolio of health and science-related stories freelancing for sites like Popular Science, Atlantic, the Guardian, Fast Company, Nautilus, Newsweek, and more. She speaks Spanish. You can follow her @ossolalex.

Holly Ojalvo joins Quartz as Talent Lab editor. Holly brings a spirit of innovation and a wealth of experience developing and supporting journalists to her new role in the Lab. She was most recently the director of content operations at Youth Radio, and senior director of digital content at USA Today, editing its college vertical. Prior to this, Holly spent seven years as deputy editor of the New York Times’ Learning Network before leaving to start up and run Kicker, a digital news publication that focused on making news accessible for 14-24 year olds, and something they could act on. Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
