Quartz editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following staff hire announcement on Thursday:

Indrani Sen is joining our staff as a deputy news editor, having served in that role on an interim basis during Roya’s maternity leave.

Indrani has been a great presence in our newsroom, and a skilled and hardworking editor since her arrival this winter. She’ll continue to edit stories and work with reporters as she’s been doing, working closely with Bobby and Heather Landy and reporting to Bobby.

As many of you know already, Indrani is also a teacher of reporting and writing at the CUNY journalism graduate program, something she’ll continue to do one day a week for the fall semester.

Prior to joining us, Indrani was a freelance writer and editor of Voices of NY, a news site highlighting the best work of the ethnic and immigrant press. She was a staff reporter at Newsday, where she covered politics and crime, among other things. Indrani has a bachelor’s degree from Oxford and a master’s from Columbia. You can follow her at @IndraniNY.

Indrani’s position completes this current wave of hiring of editors for Quartz, with Bobby, Heather Landy, and Thomas joining and Gideon shifting to senior editor and focusing on feature writing and editing and the Brief. Roya has returned recently from maternity leave and is a Quartz special correspondent based in Atlanta, where she’s both writing and editing for us.

Please join me in celebrating Indrani staying on with us beyond this summer.
