POLITICO: Have you considered integrating the app with real messaging apps, such as Slack or Facebook Messenger?

ADAM PASICK, BREAKING NEWS EDITOR: We’ve always seen the iPhone app as just the first step. The great thing about a conversational interface and voice is that it would work just as well on Slack, Facebook Messenger, Gchat, or any number of messaging platforms.

POLITICO: Who writes the messages and news blurbs that the app sends to users? How big is Quartz’s app team and many editorial staffers are dedicated to this app?

PASICK: I’m leading a small team of reporters and editors working on the actual news items, along with Jason Karaian in London, Svati Narula in New York, Elizabeth Winkler in DC, and Jill Petzinger in Berlin. We’re also in the process of adding a few more people to the team. We’re having a lot of fun writing in a conversational, irreverent voice and telling stories in a totally new format.
